Past Chief Dennis Smith of the Darien Fire Department was instrumental in locating a department in need of fire apparatus. Joel Howard, 1st Asst. Chief of the Pownal Valley Fire Department, has indicated that this pumper will be a first due response fire engine when placed in service.

Engine 41 Mack CF pumper has been in continuous service in Darien since it was purchased by the Darien Fire Department for $24,000 in 1975.

“We are very happy to see this venerated fire truck gifted to a needy fire department thereby gaining a second life serving the people of Pownal Vermont.” Chief Douglas Lockhart, Darien Fire Department.

The 1975 Mack was replaced by one of two 2006 Pierce Enforcer Pumper purchased for $500,000 through fund raising efforts by the Darien Fire Department and placed in service this past January.
