Included in these disciplines were vertical (roof) ventilation, hose advancement, search-and-rescue, and water shuttle.

St BALDrics Fundraiser

Five Darien Fire Department Firefighters participated in the St. Baldrick’s Day charity on Thursday, March 13, 2008. St. Baldrick’s is the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research.

Thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family. The event which was located at Bradford’s Bar and Grill in Stamford generated $96,874 for childhood cancer research.

Darien’s three volunteer fire departments are engaged in a friendly competition to see which department can recruit the most people to give blood through the “Bravest for Blood” drive.
Friends of the departments are encouraged to donate blood, if they can, on behalf of their fire department-of-choice (preferably ours!).

The first 100 donors will receive a free T-shirt.

The pumper trucks, built by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wis., replace two Mack engines that have been in service with the DFD for more than two and three decades, respectively.
