The Tower Ladder is Coming Along Nicely

Feb 20 -

group shot truck committee 18feb11

Six of our committee members just returned from a mid-construction inspection at Seagrave Fire Apparatus in Clintonville, Wisconsin. Their mission was to inspect the progress of the truck mid-way through its construction process. Each statement in the 100 page specification was reviewed aginast what was actually built. Methodical and detailed inspection of the dismantled bucket, boom, and chassis, was also done.

Generally speaking, the apparatus is coming along very well. It is beautifully and strongly built. The committee is very happy with the results, and is planning to return to the factory at the end of April for a final inspection.

Darien Fire Dept. Participates in the 2010 Steven Siller Memorial Tunnel to Towers Run

Sep 26 -

Darien Fire Dept. a the 2010 Steven Sillers Tunnel to Towers Run

The annual Firefighter Stephen Siller Memorial Run is a tribute to a brother FDNY firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.† He attempted to drive into Manhattan shortly following the attacks on the world trade center, and was unable to pass through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel.† The father of five donned his turnout gear, abandoned his truck, and ran to the world trade center, in search of the crew assigned to FDNY Special Operations Command Squad 1 of Brooklyn.† Twelve members of this elite group died that day.

The event commemorates the extraordinary heroism of New York’s bravest by retracing Stephen Siller’s run from Brooklyn to the world trade center.† The Darien Fire Department joins brother and sister firefighters from around the world, every year, on the last weekend of September, for this event.† Participants commonly wear full turnout gear for the run (or walk) commemorating the spirit in which our brother acted.
